Obituary

Standish – Paula Ann Bove née Collard passed away unexpectedly in her home on May 14, 2021 at the age of 69. She was born in Biddeford on September 1, 1951, the first of three children to Jean Paul and Claire (Fournier) Collard. She was a member of one of the last classes to graduate from Saint Louis High School in Biddeford in 1969 where she displayed an interest in journalism.

Although she was working in an auto parts store at the time she did meet and author her own love story with Gregory Bove. He was instantly smitten with her and fell head over heels for her. They were wed on November 13, 1973.

In 1983 she went to work for the United States Postal Service, holding multiple positions there and making some great friends along the way. She would go on to retire from the organization in 2012.

After her retirement she found great joy in working for the Prout’s Neck Post Office in Scarborough, Maine. The old-fashioned aesthetic of it gave it a small town feel that she greatly treasured, along with getting to know the people who frequented the antiquated post office. In her spare time, she ignited a passion for reading, sometimes getting through a book in a day. She liked to read outside, and she always had time to put her book down to chase off the squirrels who dared try to eat the food she lovingly set out for the birds to eat. Before the pandemic she also liked to volunteer her time on Sundays at Seal Rock at Atlantic Heights, helping with religious services there. She enjoyed being out on the water in her paddleboat, always trying to catch a bigger fish that would easily fall off of her line so she didn’t have to touch it.

She is predeceased by her parents, Jean Paul and Claire Collard, as well as Gregory Bove, her husband of 33 years. She is survived by her son Jeremy, also of Standish; her brother Michael Collard and his partner Lynne of Saco; her sister Sandy Peloquin and her husband Steve of Biddeford; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 22, at 12 noon, at Calvary Cemetery, on Broadway, in South Portland. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.mainefuneral.com
