Obituary

Walter F. Zemanek, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2021. He was born in Chicopee on Apr 13, 1931 to the late John and Mary (Gut) Zemanek. Walter was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. After the war he trained at the Springfield Armory to be a machinist. He later worked for many years as a machinist at American Bosch in Springfield, MA. Walter was an avid year round fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a wonderful and loving brother, husband, father, father in law and grandfather. As a grandfather he especially enjoyed fishing, camping and "bumming around" with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Wanda I. Zemanek who passed away in 2019 and one sister Stephanie Piela. Walter leaves two sons, John Zemanek and his wife Elizabeth of Granby and Richard Zemanek and his wife Joanne of East Longmeadow; one sister, Jane Luba of Chicopee and three grandchildren, Stephen, Andrew and Rachael Zemanek. Special thanks to Dr. Timothy Johnson and the medical staff at Sister Caritas Cancer Center in Springfield for their compassionate care and treatment. Calling hours will be held at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM followed by an in house Prayer Service at 11:30 AM.
