Obituary

Margaret F. “Peggy” (Bowers) Foster, 96, passed away on May 10, at Cherry Hill Manor Nursing Home. She was married to the late Walter Foster for 62 years. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Charles Sr. and Janet (Knox) Bowers. She lived most of her life in Harmony and Chepachet and most recently at the Village at Waterman Lake. She was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Knight, and brother, Charles Bowers Jr.

Peggy graduated from North Providence High School. Throughout her life she held a variety of jobs, including a telephone operator for AT&T; teller for Citizens Bank in Greenville; and bookkeeper at the old Greenville Finishing Company and the Greenville Animal Hospital. She was a member of St. Eugene’s church in Chepatchet.

Her most rewarding and important job to her was as a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy. Whether supporting her children in their swimming careers, “Ma Foster” was the adopted mother of the many swimmers on the R.I. Aquatic Association swim team that her husband Walt coached. She was always at every swim meet either cheering on swimmers or providing her famous tuna fish sandwiches to any team member who wanted one! In her last few years, she even learned to use an iPad and enjoyed many FaceTime opportunities with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

She is survived by her son, Brian Foster of Carrabassett Valley, Maine; her daughter Kathleen Winsor, husband Arthur “Bud” Winsor of Swanzey, N.H.; four grandchildren, Ian and wife Ryann Foster of Salt Lake City, Utah; Seth Foster of Chino, Calif.; Jeff Winsor and wife Caitlin of Phoenix, Ariz., and Gail Winsor of Staunton, Va. She is also the great-grandmother of Charlie and Jett Foster; Mia and Cash Foster.

The family has chosen to have no services. A private family interment will take place in the future. Donations in Peg’s memory can be made to support the Activities Department at The Village. Checks can be made out to “The Village at Waterman Lake” and mailed to the attention of Oliver Harvey, Village at Waterman Lake, 715 Putnam Pike, Greenville, R.I. 02828.
