Obituary

On the night of May 11th, 2021, merely one minute away from his home in Medway, MA, the Rev. Gianluca John DeMartinis Sr., Deacon, age 51, was in a motor vehicle accident. He went home to the Lord on May 14th surrounded by his family.

Deacon John is survived by his cherished wife, Kelly (Hayes) DeMartinis; his beloved children, Rosa Hope and Gianluca Nunzio DeMartinis Jr.; his parents Andrea and Anna DeMartinis of Millis and his dear brother Sandro DeMartinis of Millis along with his extended family members and friends.

John was born in Popoli, Abruzzo, Italy on November 11th, 1969. When he was three years old, he immigrated to Newton, MA with his family. John grew up in the city of Newton and later moved his family to Medway. John married his soulmate, Kelly, in 1999. He welcomed his two treasured children into his life, who were his joys and his best friends.

John was a dedicated, supportive, understanding, and encouraging husband and father. He often spent his time adoring his children and wife laughing and enjoying his life to the fullest along with his three dogs.

Deacon John was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was an active clergy member and member of the community. He loved riding his motorcycle, reading scripture and literature along with playing video games on his days off. John loved learning and adored music and movies.

He was an extremely loving and compassionate man who touched each life he met. Deacon John was an open ear, a friend to all, and known as an example of great faith. He led his life in Christ and in love and charity with his neighbors. Each summer, Deacon John made sure he spent time on the beaches of Cape Cod. For the past few years, he was employed as a food specialist at local grocery stores, which he enjoyed.

Deacon John’s absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, co-workers, and all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 472 Lincoln Street in Marlborough on Wednesday, May 19 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Needham.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 18 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).

In lieu of flowers, Deacon John’s family request that donations be made in his memory to the DeMartinis Children Education Fund, c/o Charles River Bank, P.O. Box 740, Medway, MA 02053.
