TEWKSBURY - John W. Bissett, 75, died Monday, July 22, at the Blairehouse of Tewksbury,after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Eleanor M. (Matarazzo) Bissett, with whom he hadcelebrated a 53rd wedding anniversary this past Feb. 27th.
He was born in Boston, Feb. 2, 1927, a son of the late John B. and Helen (Standish) Bissett. Hewas raised in Roxbury and had lived in Jamaica Plain, before moving to Tewksbury in 1956.
Following graduation from school, he joined the Army, and served in the Asiatic-Japanese theater.
He retired from the Payne Elevator Company in Cambridge, after 48 years of service.
Mr. Bissett was an avid saltwater fisherman, and a member of the Mass Beach BuggyAssociation. He was also a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Janice Harrington of Shirley, four sons anddaughters-in-law, John “Skipper” and Eileen (Bartashy) Bissett of Billerica, Robert and Joan(Goebel) Bissett of Rowley, Steven and Maryann (Gettings) Bissett of Dracut, Thomas andAlison (Riddle) Bissett of Tewksbury, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Laurie Bissettof Nantucket, Gene and Kathy Bissett of CT, George and Debra Bissett of Sandwich, Gail Bissettof Marston Mills, 11 grandchildren, Lisa, Angela, Lauren, Carley, Sean, Rebecca, Rachel, andJessie Bissett, Traci Speidel, Kristy and Kim Harrington.He was also brother of the late Neal Bissett.
His funeral was held on July 26, in the Tewksbury United Methodist Church. . Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery.
