Ella Mae Hobby Horton, 86, of Tifton passed away Monday, May 10, 2021, at her residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Horton at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2021, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Joseph L. Crumley will officiate.
Born March 24, 1935 in Cook County, Mrs. Horton was the daughter of the late Rube Hobby and Vollie McDaniel Hobby. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alver Harrell Horton, Sr., three brothers and three sisters. She assisted in the family business and was of the Baptist faith. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, Sam’s Shortline and the Tift County Public Library.
Mrs. Horton is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Alver Harrell Jr. and Candice Horton of Tifton; four daughters and one son-in-law, Claudine and Tim Whitworth of Jackson, Barbara Ann Pickels of Port Saint Joe, Florida, Dora June Horton of Tifton and Ella Elayne Horton of Tallahassee, Florida; one brother, Jessie Hobby of Haddock; one sister, Beatrice Whitten of Twiggs County; several grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
