Obituary

Joan F. Ryan, “Joni”, age 57, of Tewksbury, formerly of Charlestown and Billerica, passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2021.

Joni was born on November 12, 1963 in Boston, MA; she was the cherished daughter of Joan Ryan and the late James J. Ryan Jr. of Tewksbury.  Joni was raised in Charlestown and graduated from St. Mary’s High School.

Joni moved to Tewksbury and Billerica where she raised her two children, Walter and Kerry.  Joni was a devoted mother who enjoyed spending time with her children.  She loved to make the holidays special and attended any sporting or school event the kids were involved in.

Joni’s favorite role was “Nuna”; her grandchildren meant the world to her and spending time spoiling them was her favorite thing to do.  Joni checked in with the grandchildren often and looked forward to finding out what was new in their lives.

Joni enjoyed being surrounded by her family; she spent most afternoons with her mother running errands or attending appointments. She had an enormous heart and was always willing to help anyone in need.

In her spare time, Joni enjoyed listening to music, singing karaoke, taking rides to the beach, canoe adventures, and playing her online games. Joni loved nature, watching sunsets, and animals, especially her cats.

Joni was genuinely a bright light in all the lives she touched. Her laugh could fill a room and her joy for life was infectious. The loss of Joni will leave an immense void in the lives of people who loved her.

Joni was the loving mother of Kerry Pavidis and her husband Sean of Billerica, Walter Nadeau and his wife Kelly of Wilmington, devoted “Nuna” to her grandchildren Arianna Lorino, Joshua Nadeau, and James Pavidis, dear sister of James Ryan and his wife Karen of Tewksbury, loving aunt & godmother to Robert Ryan. Joni is also survived by her long-time companion George MacDonald of Weare, NH, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral at the Tewksbury Funeral Home, Main St., Tewksbury on Wednesday, May 12th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. William’s Church, Main St., (Rte. 38), Tewksbury at 10:30 a.m.  Interment to follow in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.  Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 11th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
