Alfred M. Ganeto, 69, of New Bedford died Monday March 27, 2006 unexpectedly at home.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel and Theresa (Oliviera) Ganeto, he lived in New Bedford and Wareham most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Ganeto was formerly employed as a construction worker for the Laborers Union, Local 385.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force for three years. He later served in the U.S. Army Airborne from 1958-1962. Following this service, he was a member of the National Guard for 20 years until his retirement as a Staff Sergeant.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Ganeto of New Bedford and Kim Andrade of West Wareham; three brothers, Richard Ganeto and Allen Ganeto, both of New Bedford, and David Ganeto of North Andover; three sisters, Mary Amado of East Providence, Delores Fernandes of Plymouth, and Manuella Ganeto of New Bedford; his godmother, Anna Gonsalves, of New Bedford; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Katherine, and Dante; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was the brother of the late Jeremiah Ganeto, and the godson of the late Antone Gonsalves.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Saturday April 1, 2006 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday March 31, 2006 from 4-8 PM. Burial with military honors will be in Rural Cemetery.
