Obituary

Delbert "Dell" J. Raymond, of Bedford formerly of Medford, age 87, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Veteran of World War II, died peacefully on Wednesday July 10, 2002, 3 hours before his 88th birthday at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.

Delbert was born in Bridgewater, Maine on July 11, 1914 to the late Delbert D. Raymond and Cecelia (McGowan) Raymond. Dell is a commincant of the First Community United Methodist Church in Medford.

He was the husband of the late Alice A. (Knox) Raymond with whom he shared 38 years of marriage with. He was the brother of the late Cecile Raymond, George Raymond, Hattie Lacroix, Merrill Raymond, and Anne Raymond, who have all preceeded him in death.

Dell was a proud disabled American Veteran receiving his injuries in Guadalcanal in actual combat as an enlisted man of the Americal Division with the First Marine Division of the US Army. It was there he received the Presidential Unit Citation.

Dell was employed as a clerk for the US Postal Service for over 27 years. Dell was an active member of the V.F.W. Medford Post No. 1012, acting as Quartermaster for 10 years.

He was the uncle of Deborah, and her husband Harry Smith of Amesbury, Paulette McKenzie, David Knox, Janice Mulherin, Carol Eichner, Alan Raymond, Pollyanna Tideman, and Regena Muise, and their families and several cousins. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, June Knox, of Amesbury.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2002 at Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Road, Medford, at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
