Lieutenant Commander Paul A. Paradis, U.S. Navy (retired), age 95, died on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Alden Court Nursing Care in Fairhaven.
Born in Mattapoisett, to the late Alexander and Albertine (Chabot), where he was the only son of four children, Paul left home to join the Navy in 1940, where he proudly served his country before retiring in 1970.
In the Navy, he traveled the world over, while being stationed at various locations throughout the United States. LCDR Paradis was a veteran of World War II, and both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, earning the right to wear the following campaign and service medals: Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (with 4 stars), American Theater Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Pacific Theater Campaign Medal. He ended his distinguished career stationed at Quonset Point in Rhode Island.
Paul then moved to Kingston, RI with his wife Marion and was employed at the University of Rhode Island until relocating to Georgia, for the warmer climate and the opportunity to engage in his passion of gardening and playing golf year-round. In addition to those pastimes, he was also an avid reader.
Paul resided at The Residence at Cedar Dell in Dartmouth for many years where he received excellent care as well as the last year of his life at Alden Court and for that his family is forever grateful.
Paul is survived by his loving sisters, Janet Byerley of Pacifica, CA and Gayle Bruce and her husband Edward of Dartmouth as well as many nieces and nephews. His family will remember him with much love, as he was a very kind, loving and generous man. Most of all he was a true gentleman.
Paul was predeceased by his wife Marion and daughter Cherie Paradis, as well as his sister Grace Ashley and her husband Karl, and their two sons, Edward P. Ashley and Karl J. "KJ" Ashley III.
