Evelyn Jean Ritchey, 86, of Mumford Cove, Groton, has joined the love of her life Ward after she passed away on April 24, 2021. She and Ward met when young and travelled life’s journey together for over 65 years. Their only time apart were the years during which Ward served in the Army. Ward preceded her in death in July 2020.
Evelyn practiced as a nurse for several years until the arrival of children when she turned to full-time parenting. She found joy in being a homemaker and raised two sons who survive her, Douglas (Mystic, married to Laurel Holmes) and Craig (Texas). With a keen attention to detail, Evelyn excelled at needlecrafts and was a masterful seamstress while keeping her house cozy. She worked for nearly twenty years at Twice Is Nice children’s consignment shop which she enjoyed tremendously.
Evelyn was happiest when helping others- neighbors, family, and friends – and wouldn’t sit still when there were after-dinner dishes to do.
A memorial service for both Evelyn and Ward will be held in the Fall in Pennsylvania where they started their lives together and wanted to be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Mystic-Noank Library.
