TEWKSBURY: Joan M. (Cassidy) Young, age 84, a resident of Tewksbury for 45 years, passed away at the Lowell General Hospital on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
She was the beloved wife of Robert M. Young, who passed away on April 12, 2012.
Born in South Boston on March 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late James Cassidy and the late Margaret (Joyce) Cassidy.
Joan was raised in South Boston and Burlington. She attended local schools and graduated from Burlington High School in 1955.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Secretary by McDevitt Mack Truck Company of Tewksbury, and previously worked for the State Street Bank in Boston.
Joan resided in Arlington and Burlington until moving to Tewksbury in 1976.
She was an avid reader, loved gardening and flowers, and enjoyed antiquing, and visiting flea markets.
Joan is survived by her children, Michael R. Young, of Tewksbury and Leeann Young, of Lowell; her sister, Carol McCarty and her husband J. Laurence McCarty, of McLean, VA; her brother, Paul James Cassidy and his late wife Jane, of Arlington, VA; her nieces and nephews, Michael Cassidy, Laura Cassidy Tayloe, Mary Earley, Elaine McCarty, Laurence and Gregory McCarty; her cousins, Rachel Higgins, Elaine Mazzuchelli, Paula Nugent, Joseph and Frank Cappuccio, Peter Joyce, Patricia Vanags, Maureen Campbell, Kathleen Noyes, and Theresa Joyce; and her extended family, Ryan and Josh Brown.
Calling hours are Sunday, May 2, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. Her funeral procession will begin on Monday, May 3, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main Street, Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. Masks, social distancing, and gathering limitations are necessary at all venues.
