Obituary

BRIDGEWATER - Herbert W. Wagner, 81, of Bridgewater died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of Stella (Rud) Wagner.

Born in Cathay, N.D., he had previously lived in Iowa for 18 years.

He was a resident of Bridgewater for 59 years.

Mr. Wagner worked as a handyman at the power plant at Bridgewater State College for 21 years, retiring in 1989, and had previously worked as a Foreman for Independent Nail Co.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the rank of PFC. He served with the 110 AAA, from which he fought in the D-day invasion in Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, & the Rhineland battle.

Mr. Wagner was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Arrowhead, 4 overseas service bars & the European-African service medals.

He was a member of the Bridgewater Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing & gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Irma Sankunas & Rebecca Mugherini, both of Bridgewater; Ahis brother and sisters, Arthur Wagner & Pearl Miller, both of Iowa, and Erma Formanek of Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren & many nieces & nephews. He was father to the late John Wagner and brother tothe late Dale Wagner.

A funeral Service will be held on Monday in the Bridgewater Methodist Church at 12 Noon. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 2 pm.

Visiting hours are on Sunday from 3-6 pm.
