Peter P. Filonowicz, 79

Dateline; Mansfield, MA

Peter P. Filonowicz, age 79, of Mansfield, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Stella A. (Stashewsky) Filonowicz, to whom he was wed on July 18, 1965.

Born in Rozedranka, Poland on June 29, 1941, he was a loving son of the late Josef and Stefania (Ancypo) Filonowicz.

Peter grew up and was educated in Poland and also served in the military in Poland. He moved to the United States in 1966, first settling in Jamaica Plain. He later moved to Revere, where he lived for twenty-five years and for the past twenty-nine years had made his home in Mansfield.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Filonowicz had been employed as a tailor for forty-four years at the former Louis of Boston. He was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and his greatest gift in life was his treasured family, whom he loved dearly.

Peter enjoyed taking care of his yard, tending to his vegetable gardens and engaging in home improvement projects. Along with his wife Stella, they exercised at the Inn Fitness Health Club at the Holiday Inn in Taunton. He also enjoyed sharing with family and friends his homemade Honey Spiritus, had a real enjoyment for watching wrestling and when younger ballroom dancing.

In addition to his beloved wife of nearly fifty-six years, he is survived by his loving and devoted children: Christina T. Strom and her husband Jim of Raynham and Peter P. Filonowicz, II of the South End of Boston. He was the cherished and proud grandfather of Stephanie Strom and Olivia Strom, both of Raynham. He was the dear brother of the late Father Henry Filonowicz, John Filonowicz, Walenty Filonowicz and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, April 28th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 29th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
