Obituary

James Gilbert Pockwinse,79, of Medway, MA passed away on April 20, 2021 following a long illness. He was the husband of Laraine (Powell) Pockwinse. Born in Boston on March 14, 1942, he was the son of the late Carl and Mildred (Hugo) Pockwinse. James was raised in Newton and was a long time resident of Medway. He had been a self-employed carpenter in the Medway area for many years.

He was a member of the Worcester Men of Song Barbershop Chorus and the Center City Four Quartet of Worcester. He sang in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Disneyworld and at several Boston Red Sox games.

James was a former assistant Boy Scout leader for Troop 108 in Medway. He enjoyed scouting camping trips with his sons.

He also enjoyed spending special occasions and holidays with his family.

James served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, James Pockwinse, Michael Pockwinse and David Pockwinse all of Medway and Staff Sergeant Sandra Morancy (U.S.Army National Guard) and her husband Derek of North Brookfield, MA.

He's survived also by his siblings, Ann Fudge of Streamwood, Illinois, Janet Pockwinse of Mashpee, MA, Richard Pockwinse of Chatham, MA and Carl Pockwinse of Mashpee, MA along with his beloved granddaughter Anina Borges of Cumberland, R.I.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 1:30 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James' memory to the James P. & David C. Pockwinse Fund, c/o Charles River Bank, 70 Main Street, Medway, MA 02053.
