Catherine V. “Kay” (Casey) Cremens of Somerville for 38 years, formerly of Charlestown and Cambridge, died on March 25, 2006, at Neville Center in Cambridge, following a lengthy illness. She was 79 years old.
Kay was born in Boston on August 9, 1926, and grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Francis de Sales Parochial School and Boston Public Schools. She worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard during WWII. Kay also worked at Filenes and Jordan’s Department Stores as a sales person in Boston and also at A & P in Charlestown. During this time Kay was also a mother of 7 children. When not at work she was a devoted and nurturing mother. Every free minute she had was for her children and, in later years, her grandchildren. She was a member of the Bowling League in Somerville. Kay was a fan of all Boston sports teams, but was most proud of the Boston Red Sox. She enjoyed vacationing at Cape Cod, Nantasket, Canada, Florida, Maine and New Hampshire. She loved the beaches and most of all spending time with her family.
Kay was the beloved wife of the late Joseph D. Cremens. She is the devoted mother of Joseph M. Cremens of Medford, Mary Cremens-Maher of Somerville, Ellen M. Cremens of Somerville, Catherine Fico of Somerville, Thomas L. Cremens and his wife Kathleen of Woburn, Margaret “Peggy” Casey of Medford, and Elizabeth Parks and her husband Ethan of Malibu, CA. She is the loving Nana of 10 grandchildren. Kay is the beloved sister of Thomas Casey of Somerville, Ellen (Allen) Yandle of Charlestown, Margaret “Peggy” Fanning of Medford, John Casey and his wife Lucille of Wilmington and the late Mary Shea, Elizabeth McCarville and Frances O’Rielly.
Kay’s Funeral will be held from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown on Friday, March 31, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis de Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours for Kay are from 2 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2006. Burial will take place at Cambridge City Cemetery.
