Obituary

Paul A. Deragon, Sr., 68, of Woonsocket died Sunday April 18, 2021 at home. He was the loving husband of Doris M. “Dot” (Pincince) Deragon. They were married on September 7, 1974.
Born and raised in Woonsocket he was a son of Marguerite T. (Lebrun) Deragon of Woonsocket and the late Normand O. Deragon. A lifelong resident of the city, Paul was a graduate of Woonsocket High School Class of 1971. He also attended the University of Rhode Island.
Paul was employed for over 30 years with TMS Corporation in Cumberland and Lincoln as a machinist 1st class and as and estimator. He later worked for Eagle Steel in Franklin for several years before retiring.
Paul was an avid fan of all New England sports teams. Paul rooted for the Red Sox as his “boys of summer” and every fall saw him staunchly cheering on the Patriots. The Celtics and Bruins were his teams in the winter months.
Paul loved jazz music. There was something in jazz that spoke to Paul’s inner soul. He was an excellent chef, for Paul cooking a fantastic meal was a labor of love.
A friendly and outgoing fellow, Paul knew how to make a party last and never could quite bring himself to say goodbye (or goodnight!) to anyone. His happy and upbeat manner could keep everyone engaged. Paul was happiest when he was with family and friends. Nothing in the world brought Paul more joy and pleasure than his role as grandfather to his six wonderful grandchildren; he loved them with all his heart.
In addition to his wife Dot of over 46 years, and his mother Marguerite, Paul is survived by a son Paul A. “PJ” Deragon, Jr. and his wife Lauren of North Smithfield, and a daughter Jillian “Jill” Dumas and her husband Corey of Manville. He was the brother of Robert Deragon (Karen) of Woonsocket, Marc Deragon (Keri) of PA, Donald Deragon (Donna) of North Smithfield, Jeannine Saunders (and late husband Jack Saunders) of PA, Claire Boyes of Barrington and Elaine Irons of CA. Paul was the proud grandfather of Savanah, Ariana, Shelby and Aubree Dumas and Noah and Bria Deragon. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Paul’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 am in St. Agatha’s Church, Joffre St. Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-7 pm in the Menard-Lacoutue Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd. Suite 3004 Warwick, RI. 02886.
