George Pishenin, of Wilmington, MA, formerly of Fairfax, CA and Medford, MA. Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather reposed in the Lord on April 21,2021. George was born in 1928 in Yugoslavia (now Serbia) of Russian and German parentage. He lived and attended school in Crepaja and Panchevo. As a youth during WWII he enlisted in the Russian Liberation Army fighting Fascism and Communism. After the war he was relocated to Germany to a Displaced Person’s camp in Schlesheim. In 1949 he emigrated to the US where he began to raise a family and work at MIT initially in the Metallurgy department during the exciting early years of space exploration and commercial progress where MIT’s research played an important role. He was privileged to be able to work with Dr Harold “Doc” Edgerton who pioneered strobe photography. He later became Director of the MIT Hobby Shop, a fully equipped wood and metal shop for the use of students and staff, where he instructed members in these arts. George was an avid fan of learning and reading of current and historical events, and of gaining new skills and of travel. He was a talented furniture maker and carpenter, devoted gardener, and self-taught chef. In his young life, he created many objects of different media which his family treasure to this day. Over the years, he created beautiful furniture pieces for himself and for family. Later in life he traveled to many parts of the world, including Kenya, China and Russia, and his homeland of Serbia. As a man of skills he embraced providing his knowledge of construction and farming to the monks at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral of Boston, MA and the Holy Epiphany Russian Orthodox Church of Roslindale, MA, his home parish, where he held the position of Warden for many years. In recent years, he also became a communicant of St. Xenia Orthodox Church of Methuen, MA. He spent his twilight years with Alexandra Scheremetow. He is survived by daughters: Ellen Pishenin of Newbury, NH and Natalie Pishenin and her husband Hugh W. Reilly of Wilmington, MA; granddaughters Alexandra Pishenin Reilly Propkopienko and her husband, Alexander J., and Katerina Pishenin Reilly; great-grandsons Theodore George and John Andrew Propkopienko. George lived and loved while also having a valiant fight against prostate cancer, Parkinson’s Disease, and a brain tumor. Friends may pay their respects at Holy Epiphany Russian Orthodox Church 963 South St., Roslindale on Thursday April 22 from 6 - 7pm, after which a prayer service will be held at 7 pm. George’s funeral and interment will be private (his immediate family only). He will lay in rest alongside his parents Boris and Elena (Ottilia) Pischenin at Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.
