Obituary

Deborah M. (Uhlman) Luoma, 72, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, April 17. She was a resident of Weymouth, formerly of Brockton and Whitman.

Deborah was born in Brockton on June 6, 1948, daughter of the late Ethel and Douglas Uhlman of Brockton. A graduate of Brockton High School, Deborah later received a degree in Social Work from Stonehill College.

She worked for many years for the United States Postal Service, both in Brockton and as a letter carrier in Whitman. She also served as an activities director at assisted living facilities in Brockton and Hingham.

An avid quilter, Debbie’s joy was owning her own quilting and consignment shop, Kaleidoscope in Hanover. She was an active member of the Herring Run Quilters Guild in Norwell, and enjoyed making and donating Comfort Quilts. In her later years, she continued quilting in her free time. A true beach lover, she enjoyed spending summers at her cottage in Dennis Port.

Debbie leaves behind her loving husband, Eric Luoma of Weymouth, and three children, Suzanne (Pettinato) Keeley and husband Michael of Whitman, Jonathan Pettinato and wife Michelle of Andover, NH and Nathan Pettinato and wife Michelle of Berlin, MA, 13 adoring grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is also survived by brother Daniel Uhlman and wife Linda of Swansea, sisters Denise (Uhlman) Covino and husband Lawrence of Brockton, Dale (Uhlman) Dolan and husband Donald of Brockton, and sister-in-law Germane Uhlman, of Plainville. In addition to her parents, Deborah is predeceased by her brother, Douglas Uhlman and husband Joseph Pettinato, Jr. (1977)

A celebration of Deborah’s life will be held at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman on Thursday, April 22 from 5 to 7pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family has made arrangements for donations in Deborah’s honor to be made to two causes dear to her heart.
