Obituary

Johanna Hildegard DeVlieg, 95, formerly of Londonderry, NH passed away on Saturday April 17, 2021, at Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center in Manchester, NH. She was born in Berlin, Germany on January 30, 1926, a daughter of the late Albert and Franziska Schories. Johanna was married to an American GI at the end of WWII and was the third German woman allowed to marry and leave the country. She resided in Massachusetts for many years prior to moving to Florida. She lived in Londonderry with her daughter for 15 years, prior to moving to Villa Crest 5 years ago.

Johanna worked as a restaurant manager in the hospitality business with Marriot and Sheraton Hotels. She was an avid reader and after retirement became a golfer, playing 18 holes, 5 days a week for close to 25 years. She was a very kind and helpful person, who loved to give her time to help others, even at the nursing home. Johanna will forever be remembered as a lovable person with a quick wit and great sense of humor. She deeply loved her family and the Villa Crest community. She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Phillips-Shamberger and the late James, of Londonderry, NH; five grandchildren, Sean Kelley, Fallon Hookailo, Tasha Stevens, Diane Luberto and Mark Danen, five great grandchildren, Tyla, Connor, Ryhan, Mason and Travis. She was predeceased by her first husband, Lonnie Phillips, her second husband Howard DeVlieg, two daughters, Peggy Danen and Regina Hookailo, her grandson, Michael Kelley and by her long-time companion Albert Hoffman.

Johanna’s family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the Caregivers and staff at Villa Crest for their outstanding level of service, as well as their TLC throughout the years.

There are no calling hours. After cremation, a Memorial Service will be held Sunday April 25, 2021 at 2:00 pm, at the Orchard Christian Fellowship, 136 Pillsbury Road, Londonderry followed by light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
