William, J. Hamill, Jr., of Ide Road, Glocester, died unexpectedly Saturday at his home. The beloved husband of Barbara (Hobert) Hamill for 52 years.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late William J. and Irene (Martin) Hamill. He was an Army veteran in both WW II and Korean Wars. After proudly serving his country he moved to Berryville, VA where he worked at the Holy Cross Monastery and met his wife, Barbara. Together they owned and operated The Shamrock Tavern. He was the inspiration behind his families opening “Chester’s Restaurant in Harmony, 11 years ago.
He had owned and operated the former Krete Kraft, Inc. in Smithfield from 1960 to 1986 when his son, William III took over the Company as Concrete Products, Inc., where he continued to work until his death.
Besides his wife he was the cherished father to, William J. Hamill, III, Barbara “Cis” Royer, Ann Marie Delsesto, and Patricia Johnson all of Glocester, and Carol Trovato of Cedar Grove, NJ. He was the father of the late John M. Hamill. He also leaves Melissa LaCasse and Jennifer Armes who resided with his family for many years. He was a loving and devoted grandfather to 8. He was a foster parent for 8 years and cared to over 20 children.
He was a 4th degree Knight with the Delaney Council, Knights of Colombus and a member of VFW 9760, Berryville, VA. He was Umpire-in-chief for the Pineview LittleLeague.
He was the brother of Walter, Michael, Bernard, Marie, and Blanche Hamill all of Glocester, Pam Cardosi of Lincoln and Irene Sullivan of Cumberland. He was pre-deceased by his brother Jack Hamill.
While his accomplishments and successes were great, he was most known for his sharp wit and entertaining personality. His friends ran both far and wide. He was never at a loss for saying I love you or for telling you how proud he was of you, but it is our father that we are most proud of, and his memory will be emblazoned in our hearts forever.
His funeral, with Military Honors, will be held Wednesday at 10:00am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Rt. 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Avenue, Greenville. Visitation Tuesday 4-8pm.
