Obituary

New Bedford – Maria L. (Rosa) Jorge, age 87, of New Bedford, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 16, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Filipe Jorge.

Maria was born in Faial, Azores to the late Manuel DaRosa and Felismina Silva. She moved to the United States in 1967, where she worked on the line for Carol Cable Manufacturing for many years. Maria loved cooking and gardening, and especially loved spending time with her family. She was a Devout Catholic, with everlasting faith in God.

Maria is survived by her loving husband, Filipe; her children, Mary DaSilva of New Bedford and her late husband Daniel; Lidia Silva and her husband Cesar of New Bedford, Deolinda Couture and her husband Richard of New Bedford, Lucia Ferreira and her husband Everett, Jr. of E. Freetown and Alice Medeiros and her husband Scott of E. Taunton; grandchildren, Jessica Pray, Jason Silva, Kyle Pimental, Daniel DaSilva, Jr., Lynda Fernandes, Kayla Pimental, Jared Ferreira, Austin Ferreira, Jasmine DaSilva; great grandchildren, Ava, Aiden, Avery, Ayla, Juliette, Saylor, Jolee and Asher. She is also survived by her siblings, Connie, Alavarina, Gilberto, Teresa, Jim and Manuela; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Antonio F. Jorge, her granddaughter, Monique DaSilva and by her 2 brothers, Jose and Carlos.

Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Monday evening, April 19, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. -8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place Tuesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home may be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home. Attendance in church and the cemetery may also be limited to meet capacity restrictions. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this time.
