Obituary

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Michael J. Stevens, 62, of West Springfield, was Called Home on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on November 28, 1958, a beloved son of the late Raymond J. Stevens who was Called Home on February 25, 2000 and Evelyn E. (Nassar) Stevens who was Called Home on December 27, 2013. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Classical High School in Springfield and had lived in Springfield for many years until moving to West Springfield in 2008. He was employed as a jeweler for 35 years at Joseph’s Jewelers and had previously worked at Liberty Jewelry, both in Springfield. He was a communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield. During his leisure time, he enjoyed cooking, attending and participating in auctions and collecting antiques. Above all, he always put other’s needs above his own and loved helping his family members and friends. Michael’s true calling was serving others. His greatest joy was comforting and caring for his Mother and Father in their later years. He was loved by all and never failed to make others laugh and smile. He leaves his loving brothers and sister, Joseph E. Stevens of Southwick, MaryAnne Shamatta and her husband, Louie, of Atlanta, GA, Louis R. Stevens and his wife, Laura, of Russell, Paul A. Stevens and his wife, Louise, of Westfield, and Raymond J. Stevens, Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Longmeadow; his loving sister-in-law, Laura M. (Klinakis) Stevens of Westfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, cousins, extended family members and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Mark R. Stevens who was Called Home on June 1, 2020; and his dear sister-in-law, Christine M. (Norman) Stevens. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118, (please meet directly at the Church). His Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed at funeral home, Church and cemetery. Capacity is limited due to state regulations. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
