Obituary

Dearly loved and devoted wife and mother, Mary Edith Lawson Jowers slipped into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at her home in Wray, GA with all her children surrounding her. She is now reaping her eternal rewards and praising the Lord alongside her precious husband of 56 years, Pleasant L. Jowers, Jr. Mrs. Jowers celebrated her 92nd birthday on January 31, 2021.

A graveside service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Coffee County on Thursday, April 15 at 2:00 P M with her grandson, Minister Eric Ashley presiding and Rev. Carroll Carver assisting. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in New Hope Baptist Church.

Mary persevered through several months of illness and physical suffering as her earthly body weakened; yet, her spiritual strength remained and her perseverance encouraged her family as they were thankful to be by her side in her last days on earth.

Mrs. Jowers was a loving mother of three children: Pleasant L. Jowers III from Moultrie; Joyce (Pat) Ashley of Wray; and Beth (Anthony) Ross of Wray. She especially delighted in her six grandchildren: Todd (Kathryn) Ashley of Duluth, GA; Eric (Annette) Ashley of Nashville, TN; Alison (Drew) Bloodworth of Nashville, TN; Andrew (Sarah) Ross from Bastrop, Texas; Adam (Madelyn) Ross of Atlanta; and Amanda (James) Clements of Statesboro. Bringing added joy to her heart were her six great-grands: Nathan, Naomi, Jude and Sam Ashley of Nashville, TN and Will & Sara Ashley of Duluth, GA.

New Hope Baptist Church of Ambrose, GA was one of her favorite places to be. She adored her church family and served the Lord there for many, many years, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, being active in WMU, Vacation Bible School, as well as many other acts of service.

Though Mary didn’t work outside the home, she diligently worked at home to make it a blessed and welcoming place. She was a wonderful cook, talented seamstress, skilled gardener and loving role model to many people….family and friends, alike!

Special thanks to her precious caregivers from Georgia Living Senior Homecare, Tifton, GA and Bethany Hospice, Douglas, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests if anyone would like to make a donation to feel free to give to New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 30, Ambrose, GA 31512 or Bethany Hospice, 1400 North Peterson Avenue, Suite 12, Douglas, GA 31533.
