Mahogany Lopes, 45, of New Bedford passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in New Bedford on December 29, 1975 and lived in the New Bedford area for her entire life.
Mahogany was a beloved member of the Better Community Living family and developed many important relationships over the years. She was known for infectious laugh and brought so much joy to those around her. Mahogany enjoyed spending time shopping (especially yard sales), doing crafts, listening to music, going out to eat and visiting the beach. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones, animals and attending feasts in the New Bedford area. Throughout her life, she enjoyed trips to New Hampshire, Cape Cod and Pennsylvania and participated in many faith-based activities that were very important to her. Mahogany was a good friend to many, especially Barbara and Tina.
Mahogany was pre-deceased by her partner, Carmen and kept his memory alive by reminiscing about their time together. She took pride in running a weekly reading group where she shared her love of books and read a story to her friends. Mahogany loved to dress up and always looked beautiful, especially when attending dances, parties or other special events. The holiday season, which included her birthday, was her favorite time of year. She appreciated everyone who supported her and freely gave advice and smiles to others who needed it. Mahogany will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing her.
Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford.
