Fall River – Clarence C. Briggs, 92, of Westport, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Gertrude M. (Perry) Briggs.
Born in Dartmouth, son of the late Charles and Ady A. (Wood) Briggs, he had resided in Westport for most of his life. He was a carpenter for several construction companies and also worked at the Groton, CT Submarine Base during WWII, and as a gardener at Salters Point in Dartmouth and John Sheehan Saw and Grist Mill in Dartmouth. Mr. Briggs attended Friends Meeting and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 1305 for over 60 years and the Paskamansett Bird Club of Dartmouth.
Including his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Janice S. Tripp of South Dartmouth and Ruth S. Oliveira of Westport; a brother: Clifton C. Briggs of Westport; a sister: Edna Fisher of South Dartmouth; 5 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Raymond Briggs, Christopher Briggs, Charles Briggs, Sarah Briggs and Lena Gilchrest.
Funeral services will be private.
