Obituary

Stella A. Los, 103, of Westport, MA, passed away on April 8, 2021, a week before her 104th birthday. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Los for 35 years until his death in 1977. Stella was also predeceased by her dear sister and best friend Helen B. Peckham, and by her many brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Survivors include her loving daughters Camilla (Cammy) Los of Westport and Linda L. Tibbetts of Foster, RI; son-in-law Lance Tibbetts; granddaughter Amy Tibbetts; grandson Andrew Tibbetts and his wife Lindsay Jones of Baltimore, MD; great-granddaughters Fallon and Stella; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Stella was born April 14, 1917, in Coventry, RI, daughter of the late Stanislaw Dusza and Victoria (Kapala) Dusza. She and her sister spent many childhood summers with their cousins in the Anthony section of Coventry. Stella was raised in Willimantic, CT, before moving to Fall River at age 10.

A Fall River resident for over 50 years, Stella was a parishioner of the former Holy Cross Church and the former Sacred Heart Church, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She moved to Westport in 1980.

Devoted to her family, Stella was her mother’s caregiver for many years, and later became an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid reader and an enthusiastic player of Canasta and Scrabble. She loved nature, animals, and feeding the birds; she also enjoyed painting in watercolors and working in pen and ink. Proud of her Polish-American heritage, Stella enjoyed several trips to her parents’ homeland in Poland. She also traveled on many U.S. road trips with her husband. An excellent cook and baker, Stella graciously entertained family and friends each year at the holidays.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of The Oaks, New Bedford, for their loving care of Stella over the last two years, with a special thanks to Maria Amaral.

All services were private due to the pandemic. Stella was buried in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River, beside her husband.
