Obituary

Thomas “Tom” Poznick, Sr.

Thomas “Tom” Poznick, Sr., 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was blessed to have the rosary said to him by his granddaughter, Nadia Poznick just before joining God in Heaven.

Tom grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts, where he was known for dazzling the football fans at Cawley Stadium with 90-yard touchdown runs. His childhood was filled with wonderful memories with his friends and brothers Fred, Steve, and Bob Poznick. When the streetlights came on Stromquist Avenue, Tom would run home to the loving arms of his parents, Frank and Stella.

Tom married his devoted and loving wife, JoAnne, who he met as his nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital when he broke his arm. Tom and JoAnne were married for 55 years and enjoyed rides to the New England coast and mountains. He loved his family time, especially playing basketball with his son, Thomas Poznick Jr. and playing dolls with his daughter, Cheryl Slattery. If you asked Tom Jr. and Cheryl to describe their Dad in two words, “my hero” would be the echo from the room. He lived up to this hero title, as he raised his three grandsons Charles, Chris, and Stephen, who followed in his footsteps as tremendous football players.

Before he was whisked off to Heaven, he loved to spend time with his granddaughter, Nadia, the sunshine of his life. He enjoyed learning about Nadia’s favorite sport, tennis—they would watch and discuss it all day long. He was simply the best “Grampy” in the world!
