Obituary

WORCESTER___ Mary (Waszczeniuk) Visceto, passed away peacefully at the age of 101, on Monday April 5, 2021 with her daughter by her side. She was predeceased by her husband William A. Visceto, who died in May 1994 and her son William M. ‘Vic’ Visceto, who died in June 2012.

Mary was witness to 100 years of historical events and milestones and all the inventions those years included. She was gifted with a very long life. She was born on September 3, 1919 in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was the only child of Vincent and Julia Waszczeniuk, who immigrated to this country from Poland. They predeceased her in the spring of 1961 and the spring of 1962, respectively. Mary moved to Worcester with her parents as a child and attended St. Mary’s School. She spoke only Polish and learned to speak English while a student there. Later she graduated from Commerce High School.

She is survived by her daughter, Rita N. Nystrom and her husband Robert W. Nystrom, and their children Amy E. and Scott W. Nystrom; her daughter-in-law Dolores A. Visceto and her children, Cathy Conroy and her husband Jeff, and Gina Grady and her husband Bobby. Mary also leaves behind several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

For the past 6 years, Mary has been a resident at Life Care Center of Auburn. She very much enjoyed living there and would always say: “This is such a wonderful place”. She had many friends there. Mary was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed reading and visits with her family. In her younger years, she was a nanny for many Worcester area families.

Mary’s family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at Life Care Center for their kindness and the outstanding care given to Mary during her years living there. An extra special thank you to the New England Hospice Care Team, especially the Director of Nursing, Kim, whose kindness and caring heart provided Mary and her attending family members with outstanding comfort, care and support through Mary’s final and most difficult last 2 years of life.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 12:30pm in HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester. A calling hour will be held from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Those wishing to honor Mary’s memory may make a memorial contribution to New England Hospice, 190 Old Derby Street, Suite 304 Hingham, MA 02043 or to Life Care Center of Auburn Residents Fund, 14 Masonic Circle, Auburn, MA 01501.
