Obituary

THERESA DEVINE
August 10, 1962 – March 31, 2021

May the roads rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

-Traditional Gaelic Blessing

Theresa Rose Devine, known to many as “Terry,” passed away peacefully on March 31 at The Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers, MA. Theresa suffered ongoing health complications following a recent surgery. She was 58 years old.

Theresa was born on August 10, 1962 in Boston, MA, the youngest of three daughters to Edward and Clare (Cummings) Devine. She grew up in Acton, Massachusetts and graduated from Acton-Boxboro Regional High School in 1980. Upon graduation, she held several clerical jobs where she used her word-processing and bookkeeping skills. Theresa had several challenging health issues in her adult life; she struggled with mental illness and eventually found stability in a group home in Revere, Massachusetts, where she lived for the past fifteen years.

Theresa loved animals and grew up in a household of pets that included at various times guinea pigs, parakeets, fish, cats and gerbils. She also enjoyed singing, twirling her baton and playing the piano. The family shared many holidays with Aunt Pat, Uncle Bill and the cousins from Dedham. Theresa spent several weeks each summer in Cape Cod with her family and grandfather (“Pa”), and had fond memories of camping trips along the East Coast in a pop-up trailer with her father and sisters. She loved to bake.

Theresa is survived by her father, Edward J. Devine and wife, Jean (Morgan) Devine, from Sarasota FL, her sister Mary Lo from Longwood Florida, brother-in-law Ton, their children and grandchildren, and Margaret Devine-Sullivan from New London NH and brother-in-law, Brian. Theresa’s mother predeceased her in 1980.

The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Seagull House in Revere, MA, the medical staff at Massachusetts General Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, The Kaplan Family Hospice House and the many individuals and programs that have been a support to Theresa over the years.
