Obituary

WORCESTER___James Gregory Clark died in his sleep on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the age of seventy-three, after a life filled with adventure and achievement. He leaves behind his beloved daughter Alexandria, his brother Kenneth Clark, his sister Linda Burke, and his grandsons, James Amorello and Ethan Amorello, to whom he was particularly devoted. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy, and his only true love, his wife Denise.

Jim was born in Worcester and lived most of his life here. He left school at the age of fourteen, supporting himself in the next few years through his precocious skill at pool and sundry games of chance. He next joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably and learned skills which were to serve him well throughout the rough and tumble of his life. A devoted patriot, though certainly no friend of Government, Jim Clark was always proud of his Marine service.

After leaving the Marines, Jim earned his GED and attended college. He gained employment and briefly worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, earning a weekly wage. However, aside from this brief period of time in the 1970s which he sometimes ruefully referred to as "The Lost Years", Jim eschewed conventional modes of employment.

After Jim married Denise, together they established Clark Realty. Jim would go on to achieve great success in acquiring and managing real estate. He liked working for himself, always trusting in his abundant abilities.

Jim led a runyonesque existence, making his way using his abundant gifts of charm, guile, and wit. He was by turns endearing, infuriating, and endearing again, and he was never boring. Even into his seventies he participated in sport, as an accomplished tennis player, and he enjoyed keeping up with the daily outcome of various sporting events, though his rooting interests tended to vary from day to day. He loved to travel, often embarking on faraway trips spontaneously.

Jim Clark's abiding qualities were his abundant generosity and his ceaseless search for wisdom and knowledge, this last trait perhaps unexpected in one so rough-hewn, but very constant and real. He was a superb cook. He devoted his life to his family, being there and looking out for them in every way. There was nobody else like Jim Clark. He cannot be replaced. He will always be missed.
