Obituary

WAYLAND: Elsie (Ryter) Charrette, 97, died on Thursday, March 25, 2021 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Thun, Switzerland on November 16, 1923 the daughter of Carl Ryter and Elsbeth (Schmid) Ryter. She immigrated through Ellis Island in late 1925 at the young age of 2 with her sister Hattie and her mother Elsbeth Ryter. Her father Carl Ryter had already come to America many months earlier to establish a home for them in the Buffalo, New York area.
Elsie had been a long-time resident of Wayland and settled on Simpson Road when she and her late husband Jack came to the New England area for his work. She and Jack were married on March 6, 1954.
She was the beloved wife John “Jack” L. Charrette for 50 years until his death on February of 2004. She was the devoted mother of John L. Charrette and his wife Peilin Charrette of Framingham and the late Robert D. Charrette. Elsie was the cherished grandmother of Jacqueline M. Charrette of Framingham. She was the sister the of the late Hattie Uhl, Florence Tuzzi, Dorothy Gabel, and Alice Ferrentino. She is also survived by 7 nieces and 14 nephews.
Elsie spent her formative years in Buffalo, New York and graduated from Fosdick-Matsen High School. She enjoyed working in the embroidery industry.
She was a member of the Wayland Womens Club and was one of the “Neighborhood Moms” to all the kids growing up in the Simpson Road area. She was a talented seamstress and designed and created her own clothes for many years. She will be fondly remembered and loved by her family and all those who knew her.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 for, 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home 56, Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Her funeral services will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021 at 10:30 am at the funeral home followed by interment in the Charrette family lot in Lakeview Cemetery, Wayland.
Masks are required in the funeral home and at the cemetery and social distancing will be observed.
