Obituary

New Bedford – Bernie Fagundes Sr, a.k.a “Gene Daniels” age 70, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday March 25, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness (not due to the Covid Virus). He was the beloved husband of Lana (Karajohn) Fagundes.

Bernie was born in Acushnet, MA to the late Manuel Vieira Fagundes and Mary Isabel (Correia) Fagundes. He was the owner of Gene Daniels Disc Jockey Service. He had a long and lengthy DJ Entertainment Event Business that spanned over 45 years, including Radio Disc Jockey, Musical Entertainment for many weddings, anniversaries, etc. He had a 7-year run on WBSM with oldies but goodies music, was a member of the New Bedford Musicians Hall of Fame and an honorary member of the Dartmouth Police Association. He was also an original host for the Cable TV Magazine Show in Fairhaven. Bernie enjoyed oldies concerts, cruises and playing bingo at Foxwoods.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Lana; his son, Bernardo “Junior Jay” Fagundes Jr., father of the late Deana Marie Leblanc and also father to Breanna Galanek and Brian Galanek and his wife Lexcy; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Joseph Fagundes, Sr. and Manny Fagundes; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Theresa Woodis and Tony Fagundes.

Bernie’s visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. His funeral will take place on Tuesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name of Sacred Heart Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Flowers are accepted or a donation can be made in Bernie’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home. Attendance in church and the cemetery will also be limited to meet capacity restrictions. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this time.
