Obituary

Hoffman, Michael Donald

Age 58 of North St. Paul, Minnesota died with his wife, Mary at his side in St. John’s Hospital, Maplewood, Minnesota.

Mike was born January 27, 1963 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the son of Donald and Sally Hoffman. Following his graduation from high school, he experienced several jobs before landing his career at the St. Paul Public Schools. As an Engineer for the schools, he was a custodian, serviced the boilers for the buildings, cared for the swimming pools and truly was respected by the staff he worked with. After 35 years of service, Mike retired from the St. Paul Public Schools.

While living in North Saint Paul, he met Mary A. Gollnick at the US Post Office while mailing a letter! On November 9, 2001 they were united in marriage in Roseville, Minnesota. Both Mike and Mary knew they were destined to be together from the moment their eyes connected. Mike loved animals and truly loved the “four-footed members” of their family, Prince William, Lady Zsa Zsa, Ellie, and Sir Winston. Mike had a great love for travel – especially taking cruises and traveling wherever he could. He loved to see new places, and returning to favorites like Las Vegas. Because Mary was from South Dakota, he loved traveling throughout the state and learning as much as he could. Attending Rock concerts totally excited him – and being able to buy Band t-shirts at the concerts was something that allowed him to tell about that particular concert over and over! The Saint Paul Saints minor baseball team was a team he enjoyed watching and traveled to other cities to see them play. He was a kid at heart and loved all the fun that centered around the St. Paul Saints Baseball Team. Mike had a super fun-loving personality – he could be the life of any party! Besides life itself, the only thing he enjoyed more was his beautiful wife’s cooking! He was treated to so many great meals and appreciated her love and special attention she gave him.

Mike will be truly missed by the love of his life, Mary; his sister, Sandra Hoffman; nephews, Robert, Alex, and Nathan and their families; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Gollnick of Webster, SD and Theresa Gollnick of Eden Prairie, MN; other relatives and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his father and mother-in-law, Phillip and Veronica Gollnick; and young brother-in-law, Phillip Gollnick, Jr.

A memorial service to honor Mike will be held at 11 AM Friday, April 9, 2021 at Sandberg Funeral Home, 2593 – 7th Ave. E., North St. Paul, MN with a gathering of friends and family beginning at 10 AM. Mike’s Celebration will be live streamed on the day of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.

Following the memorial service, Mike’s family invites to the North St. Paul American Legion from 12 – 3 pm, to share stories with each other and honor his life.
