Obituary

Giorgio Pelagio, age 66, a lifelong resident of Somerville, passed away on March 25, 2021. Born in Grotteria, R.C., Italy, George, as he was affectionately known, was the son of the Francesco “Frank” and Rosa (Oppedisano) Pelagio. He came to the United States with his family at age 14, and they settled in Somerville. He was raised and educated in Somerville, and was a graduate of Somerville High School. An excellent athlete, he played soccer and football there.

George was employed for many years at the TJMaxx/Marshalls in Watertown. He is remembered as a very kind soul who was always the first to help anyone in need. He is lovingly survived by his siblings: Maria A. Quigley and her husband Joe of Winchester, and Anthony Pelagio of Somerville. He was the loving uncle of Erica C. Casey and her husband Timothy, of Belmont, Patrick Quigley and his wife Jenna, of Westminster, and the great-uncle of Julia, Colin and Aiden Casey, Arden and Imogen Quigley. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Wednesday, March 31 from 8:30-9:30AM, and are reminded to wear masks, enter through the front door and practice social distancing, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the Italian Home for Children, 1125 Centre St. Jamaica Plain, MA 02130. www.italianhome.org.
