Obituary

Lois P. Young, 97, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Private funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church, with the Rev. Edsel Young and the Rev. Tracy Swanson officiating. A graveside service will follow for family and friends at 12 Noon, on Sunday, at New Bethel Cemetery in Ben Hill County, Georgia.

Mrs. Young was born August 4, 1923, in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Ernest and Nollie Wooten Pridgen. She was a faithful christian wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to quilt, sew, read, garden, and crochet. She was known as a fabulous cook and for her signature layered chocolate cake. Regardless of kinship, Mrs. Young was known by many in the community as “Mema” or “Aunt Lois” because of her gentle and loving spirit that welcomed everyone as if they were her family. Mrs. Young was a longtime member of New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church where she humbly served as secretary, Sunday School teacher, and devoted Deacon’s wife. She was held in highest esteem for her Christian character and best described as a woman of special grace.

She is survived by her two daughters: Nollie & Waymon Shrouder and Margie & Tracy Swanson, all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Lisa & Chris Sward of Cartersville, Pam & Scott Haskins of Tifton, Tammy & Steve Sellers of Wray, Chad & Joanie Swanson of Jesup, and Marcy & Randy DeGreef of Madison, Wisconsin; and great-grandchildren: Tanner Ewing, Logan Ewing, Allie Ewing, Austin Haskins, Amanda Haskins, Anna Sward, Lilah Grace Sellers, Bryce Swanson, Conner Swanson, Abby Swanson, Hazel Lois DeGreef, and Harrison DeGreef. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Young; a son, David Leroy Young; an infant son; four brothers; four sisters; and an infant sibling.
