Obituary

Larry Allan Ervin was born to Leroy Clifton Ervin and Wannetta Cobb Ervin on January 29, 1948 in South Bend, Indiana. During Wannetta's second marriage to Christopher C. Carter in 1957 the family moved to Chicago, Illinois where Larry received his formal education. He would later complete his education in Boston, Massachusetts.

In November of 1965, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He would serve a tour
during the war in Vietnam. During his service in 1967 he was wounded in action and sustained serious life-threatening injuries and as a result he received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1968.

In 1969 he married Mary Ann Curry. They would reside in Boston, Massachusetts, until
he relocated to New Bedford Ma in the early 1990’s. He then made New Bedford his new home. He recently had resided in Wareham.

Larry was a man of many talents. He was involved in the construction industry and was a general contractor. Working construction he eventually opened his own business in 2009, Veterans Construction LLC in Rhode Island. He was heavily involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars in New Bedford where he served on the board of directors.

Larry departed this life on March 19, 2021. His charismatic personality will always be
remembered. He leaves heartfelt memories with his siblings, Janice Ervin of North Miami Beach, FL, Derrick Carter of Bolingbrook, IL, Linda Carter of Fredericksburg, VA, Brenda Carter-James of Decatur, GA, Christopher Carter III of Spring Hill, FL, David Carter of Miami, FL, Daniel Carter of Ft Lauderdale, FL and Marceline Carter-Carson of Chicago, IL to name a few of his siblings. He is also survived by five children, Cheri Broome of Massachusetts, Emily Van Gurp of Canada, Siedah Ervin of Boston, MA, Kateisha Ervin of Boston, MA and Jarell Ervin of New Bedford, MA, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory of a host of cousins and friends.

His visitation will be held on Saturday March 27, 2021 from 12-1 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his funeral service at 1 PM.
