Worcester—Bernice A. (Johnson) Porter, 91, formerly of Greenwood St., died on March 20, 2006, at Saint Vincent Hospital. Her husband, John R. Porter, died in 1976. She leaves one son, Robert L. and his wife Carol Porter of Brewster, a daughter-in-law, Judith Porter of Holden; a brother, Richard Johnson, and a sister, Dorothy Sullivan, both of Worcester; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. A son, John Porter, and 2 brothers, Robert and Donald predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Edward and Ebba (Fegreus) Johnson and graduated from Commerce High School. During WWII, inspired by Rosie the Riveter, Bernice supported the war effort by working in many factories. She was a sales clerk at many retail stores over the years, including Filene’s. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Please omit flowers.
