Obituary

SOMERSET… Louis C. Taveira, 69, of Somerset passed away after a brief illness March 18, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
He was the loving husband of Patricia (Albin) Taveira with whom he celebrated 47 years of marriage.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Joseph and Clotilde (Couto) Taveira. He was a 1969 Graduate of Somerset High School and graduated in the top ten of his class. He subsequently received his Baccalaureate Degree in History from Bridgewater State University. He worked as a meat cutter at Shaw’s Supermarket until his retirement in 2020. Mr. Taveira was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church in Somerset. He passionately followed politics and was a devoted New England sports fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife at the beach and watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, especially softball, baseball and cheer.
Along with his wife, survivors include his children: Christine Halliwell and her husband Mark of Dighton, Tracey Goncalves and her husband Paul of Dighton and Michael Taveira of Somerset; his grandchildren: Noah and Gabby Halliwell and Riley, Addyson and Roeyn Goncalves; his siblings: Phoebe Dedonis and her husband Ken of CT, Joseph “Charlie” Taveira and his wife Susan of Swansea and Candace Stansfield and her husband Gil of Dighton; his niece: Celine Brown and her husband Matt of Somerset and nephews: Aodhan, Thaire and Eoin Stansfield of Dighton; his great nieces: Emily and Megan Brown; and his cousins: Donna Pigeon of Fall River and Kathy Cabeceiras of Somerset. He was the grandfather of the late R. Phyn Goncalves and brother of the late Joseph Mathias Taveira.
Funeral Mass to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on March 25, 2021 at 11 AM at Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St. Fall River followed by interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, County St. Somerset. Everyone wishing to attend the Mass is asked to meet directly at church. Calling hours will be held on March 24, 2021 from 5 – 8 PM at Boyko Memorial Funeral Home, 709 Broadway Fall River, MA 02724.
