Obituary

Eugene L. “Mousey” Roux, Jr., 62, a member of a well known Tewksbury family, died Wednesday, March 17, peacefully at home after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

A son of Eugene Leo Roux, Sr. and the late Dorothy Ruth (McCartney) Roux, Mousey was born on January 13, 1959 in Lowell. He was raised and educated in Tewksbury and enjoyed growing up in “Roux Village”. He graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School with the Class of 1977.

Mousey will be forever remembered as a Tewksbury Redmen Football legend and part of the Redmen championship teams in the late 1970’s. He was inducted into the TMHS Hall of Fame with his undefeated 1976 team.

Growing up he was an integral part of his family business, Tewksbury Sewer Service. He later established his own company, Draingo, in the 1990’s which he owned and operated until his passing. Additionally, he worked for the Tewksbury State Hospital for over 40 years retiring as a third class engineer, specializing in steam boiler engineering.

Mousey enjoyed the outdoors and loved watching the wild life from his home on Round Pond. He made many memories at the “Goat Bar” especially on Thanksgiving where he could be found frying turkeys for those who stopped by...some never leaving.

The roar of Mouse riding by on his Harley Davidson was often heard around town with country music blaring. He loved the long trips he took with friends and often spoke of his ride to Sturgis. More than anything, his daughters and his grandchildren were his world and are his legacy. He was a proud pepere, who’s face would light up when he was around “the brats”. He was surrounded by their love during his last months, passing on stories and sharing the classic movies he loved.

Mousey was also a longtime member and friend of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks #2070, among other various local social clubs. He will never be forgotten and was a true personification of what it means to be “Tewksbury Tough”.

Besides his father, Eugene Sr., he is survived by his two daughters, Danielle M. LoPilato and her husband, Anthony and Rene all of Tewksbury, his grandchildren; James, Sophia, Julianna, Thomas and Calvin. He is also survived by his 3 brothers, Charles Roux and his wife, Linda, of Tewksbury, Joseph Roux and his wife, Julie, of North Carolina and Eric Roux and his wife, Michelle, of Salem, NH. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

He was also predeceased by his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Diane (Tontodonato) Fonzi.

While following social distancing guidelines and wearing a mask, all are welcome to attend his visitation on Tuesday, March 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.. at the Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury, MA 01876 / 978-851-2061. His Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Williams Church on Wednesday, March 24 at 11:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. Tewksbury Funeral Home is honored to serve the Roux Family.
