Daphine Sumner Peavy, 84 of Ocilla passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021, at her residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Peavy at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. David Sumner will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 21, 2021, from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during the visitation and the graveside service.
Born September 13, 1936 in Irwin County, Mrs. Peavy was the daughter of the late William Clarence Sumner and Claudie Myrtle Parrish Sumner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Jackson Peavy, Jr.; and one brother, Willis Crawford Sumner. Before retiring, she taught school in the Irwin County School System for 35 years. She was a member of Pinetta Missionary Baptist Church in Irwin County.
Mrs. Peavy is survived by one son, Jack Peavy III of Ocilla; one granddaughter, Belinda Peavy Culbertson and her husband, D. J. Culbertson; five great-grandchildren, Makenzie Huggins, Selena Cowart, Hannah Culbertson, Devin Culbertson and Jackson Culbertson; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Ruth Sumner of Irwin County and Kathy Lindsey of Randolph County.
