John Garvey of Medford passed away on March 17. He was 102 years old. John was the beloved husband of Nancy (Rando) Garvey. Born in Hartford, CT. he was the cherished son of the late Frederick and Florence M. (Kiselbrack) Garvey.
John served over 20 years in the in the U.S Army from 1940 to 1961. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, John worked as a maintenance engineer for the Ritz Carlton Hotel. He was also a member of the VFW Post #1012 in Medford.
John was the devoted father of Elizabeth A. O'Brien and her husband Kevin of Lake Pleasant, NY and Susan M. Sheeran and her husband Francis Jr. of Northville, NY. He was the adored grandfather of Matthew J., Daniel C., and Sean P. O'Brien and Patrick J. and Michael T. Sheeran and loving great-grandfather of Madison and Tucker O'Brien, Daniel and Wyatt O'Brien and Shamus, Declan and Annabelle O'Brien. John was the dear brother of the late Edward Garvey. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
John’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Wednesday, March 24 at 9AM followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-6PM.
