Dorothy Dowdy Young, 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, March 15, 2021, at her residence.
Memorial services will be 2 PM, Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Jeremy Cox and Jeanette Young officiating. Private interment will be held in Osierfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:30 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Young was born September 17, 1939, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Joseph Jackson “Jack” & Sara Louise Taylor Dowdy. She was a homemaker and a farm wife. She lived most of her life in Osierfield and Fitzgerald. Mrs. Young loved to fish and cook and enjoyed spending time with her family and her fur babies. She was a Seventh Day Adventist.
She is survived by her children: Sandra Young of Macon, Sue Young Strickland of Blairsville, Barbara Ann Young Hogan & Lin of Fitzgerald, and Matthew Henry Young of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Ashley Hogan Woods & Rooster of Fitzgerald, Ira Strickland & Shirley of McRae-Helena, and Nikki Hogan Rodriguez & Bruno of Fitzgerald; and great-grandchildren: Allyson Rylee Woods, Maddie Strickland, Layla McWhorter, Carlos Rodriguez, and Caleb Reed Woods on the way. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Vasser Young; and a daughter, Iris “Flossie” Young.
The family suggests those desiring to send memorials may send them to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners’ Hospitals for Children; or to the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Humane Society.
