In Memory of Alexander Pankov (1949-2021)
Alexander passed away on March 12 at the age of 72. He received his PhD in 1973 at Voronezh State University, advised by Selim Grigorievich Krein.
His domain was Mathematics - the Queen of Science. Alexander’s achievements in this field were unparalleled. He published 160 papers and 5 monographs. He was a frequent speaker at mathematical conferences and symposiums. He was a Member of American Mathematical Society. Alexander couched and advised Ph.D. students. 6 of them successfully defended their thesis and became his disciples. He was a wonderful educator and exemplary role model for them.
In recent years, Alexander was a professor at the Morgan State University, where he actively participated in the work of seminars and conferences at the department and at the University.
Alexander was very fond to his work. Many times he mentioned that he does not have enough time to complete all new ideas that he had
Alexander was distinguished by his friendliness to all colleagues at work, a desire to help in solving many problems.
Above and beyond his scholarly and professional contributions, Alexander loved life and ability to enjoy everything he does. He was an avid reader. He maintained a worldwide network of friends even before the World Wide Web was invented. He liked cats. His smile will be never forgotten.
Alexander is survived by his wife Tatyana and his son Mark.
