Obituary

Jo-Ann Vickers nee Schaefer passed away peacefully in her Ventura, CA home on February 26, 2021 at the age of 65 after a hard fought lengthy battle with cancer. With strength, determination, hope and faith Jo-Ann always lived her best life. Jo-Ann was born on November 20, 1955 in Long Island, NY, the oldest of four children. At the age of 13 her family moved cross-county to Ventura, CA. She graduated from Ventura High School in 1974 and married her high school sweetheart in 1978, raising her two children in the nearby Ojai Valley where she resided until 2004. Upon her return to Ventura Jo-Ann met and married Mark Vickers and found her forever partner in love and life. Jo-Ann planned her retirement from the Ojai Post Office excited to begin the next adventures of her life with her husband. Jo-Ann pursued life with a fullness and excitement following her endless interests and sharing them with family and loved ones, most notably her grandchildren Charlotte-Rose, Hailey, and Coy. Jo-Ann enjoyed traveling the western states camping and fishing with her husband and often bringing their grandchildren, shopping and lunch dates with her siblings, sleepover weekends with her grandchildren, and long family dinners and get-togethers with her children Jessica and Christopher. Jo-Ann shared a close and special friendship with her devoted siblings spending much of her time in their company. Jo-Ann was Mark’s “Sunshine”, Jessica and Christopher’s “Bubs”, her siblings Best Friend, and a wonderful Nana to all her grandbabies.
Jo-Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Bradford Schaefer, and son Christopher “Mo” McClester. She is survived by her husband of 13 years Mark Vickers of Ventura, CA; daughter Jessica McClester and granddaughter Charlotte-Rose Burchell of Olympia, WA; grandson Coy McClester and his mother Lenna Gomez of Ventura, CA; step-children Melisa Hutchinson and Ryan Vickers and their families; best friend and sister Donna Hernandez of Ventura, CA; brother Charles Schaefer of Ventura, CA; sister Bernadette Pennington of Bend, OR; and a great many nieces and nephews and their children.
Jo-Ann will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, she will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Jo-Ann was a force of life bringing sunshine and happiness, always wishing everyone to have a zippidy-doo-dah-day and reminding you that she loved you “to the Heavens”
A Memorial Service will be held in honor of Jo-Ann Vickers on Saturday March 27th, 2021 with Visitation services for family and friends to pay their respects from 10:00am to 2:00pm with a Chapel service to follow at 3pm at BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION located at 15 Teloma Dr, Ventura, CA 93003.
