Obituary

Alfred R. "Fred" Santospago 92, of Franklin, died peacefully, at his home, with family at his side, Saturday March 6, 2021 following an illness.

Fred grew up in Wellesley MA where upon graduating high school, entered the Navy to proudly  serve his country. He spent 35 years at Sears automotive in Natick MA where he made so many friends over the years.

Fred was the beloved husband of Anne M. (Slotta) Santospago, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He was the proud father of Scott Santospago and his wife Barbie of Doylestown, PA, Anne Byrne and her partner Tim Maroney of Putnam, CT, the late Cari Santospago of Franklin, Chris Santospago and his wife Ana of Natick, MA, David Santospago and his partner Robin of Worcester, MA, Andy Santospago and his wife Karen of Arlington, MA, Roseanne Santospago and her partner Mike Matta of Waynesville, NC, Stephen Santospago of Franklin.

Fred was the proud “Papa” of Hayley, Matthew, Kristen, David, Eric, Yago, Julie Anne, Joseph, John, Henry, Nicholas, Victoria, Lyndsi and Gracie. Also the proud Grand “Papa” of Rowan and Aidan.

Fred is survived by his loving sisters Florence Smith and Helen Santospago, both of Wellesley. He was the brother of the late Peter Santospago, Frank “Babe” Santospago, Elizabeth “Liz” Santospago and Henry Santospago.

He was a Renaissance Man with old world manners who viewed the world through the lens of People. Fred’s love of people was only surpassed by love of family. He found such joy in his interaction with his fellow human beings that everyone about him felt better. “Fred’s one liners” are the stuff of legends.

Thoughtfulness and sharing came very naturally to him. In short, “Friendly Fred from Franklin” suited him to a tee! He knew that he would probably never be rich but instead valued the things that really matter; Family, Friendship, Kindness and Loyalty. He was Larger than Life and we will not see his like again.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Wednesday March 10th, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Franklin at 10AM. To view the Mass click stmarysfranklin.org
