Robert C. Nixon, 85

Dateline: Norton, MA

Robert C. Nixon, age 85, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love and care of his daughter on Saturday, March 6, 2021.

Born in Attleboro, MA on November 6, 1935, he was a loving son of the late Howard and Harriet (Randall) Nixon.

Bob grew up in Dighton and was a graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth High School. From August 28, 1953-August 27, 1956, he proudly served his country a member of the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.

A resident of Norton for the past twenty-five years, he had formerly resided in North Attleboro. Prior to retiring, Mr. Nixon was a retired self- employed engraver.

Bob enjoyed attending events at the Norton VFW Post. His hobbies included learning to speak German and traveling throughout the United States by way of car. He was a very talented model ship builder, will always be remembered for the model train cities he constructed, but most of all for the love and joy he received spending time with his grandchildren.

Robert’s family would like to especially thank Robin Therrien for the exceptional care, compassion and love she bestowed to Bob and the Nixon family.

He is survived by his devoted children: Leslie K. Gillis and her husband David of Albany, Georgia, Robert B. Nixon and his wife Ann of North Attleboro, Dennis K. Nixon of Bourne and the late Thomas S. Nixon. He was the cherished grandfather of Chelsy, Zachary, Garett, Matthew, Ashley, Joel, Corey, Bianca and Paris. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, his brothers Dean Nixon and his wife Marie of Montana, Gordon Nixon and his wife Susan of Norton, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend funeral services with military honors on Wednesday, March 10th at 2:00 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue in Bourne.

A funeral procession will form on Wednesday March 10th at 12:30 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton. Those wishing to go directly to the cemetery are asked to please arrive no later than 1:45 P.M.

Visiting hours are omitted and due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, please consider making a donation in Robert’s memory to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court Street, Unit 2601, Boston, MA 02108.
