Obituary

CHICOPEE - Alice I. (Roy) Hamel, 74, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home in the early morning of Wednesday, March 3, 2021. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by her loving family and her friend and caregiver, Karen Krawczynski. She was born in Holyoke on February 11, 1947, the “Favorite” daughter of the late Paul E. and Doris A. (Dupont) Roy. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and except for spending several years in Virginia near the ocean that she greatly enjoyed, she came back to her home. When she wasn’t enjoying fun in the sun and her beloved grandchildren, she worked for many years at Spalding Sports Worldwide and BJ’s Wholesale Club. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Willimansett. Following the closing of her beloved church, she became a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Armand P. Hamel who was Called Home on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2016. They were married on November 11, 1976 and were blessed with over 40 years of happiness together. She leaves her six loving children, Kathleen R. Roy and her husband, David, of Belchertown, Nora J. Hamel of Virginia Beach, VA, David A. Heroux and his wife, Elizabeth, of Granby, Miriam A. Gennari and her husband, Paul, of Arlington, VA, Joseph P. Hamel and his wife, Michelle, of West Springfield, and Michael P. Hamel and his wife, Megan, of Middletown, CT; her 11 cherished grandchildren, Justin Roy and his wife, Kate, twins Madelynn and Olivia Heroux, Teresa and Briana Rusin, Rose Gennari, and Mason, Karsen, Brandon, and twins Brooklyn and Brylee Hamel; her two cherished great grandchildren, Adryan and Aubrey Roy; her two dear brothers, Clarence Roy and his wife, Connie, of Chicopee and Reverend Robert Roy, Pastor of Saint Michael Church in New Haven, CT; her three dear sisters-in-law, Pauline Beauregard, Irene Gonneville and her husband, Marc, and Jeannette Boulerice and her husband, Dennis, all of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended members of the Hamel and Roy families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased her dear brother, George Roy and her dear brother-in-law, Eugene Beauregard. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, March 9, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 7:45 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will be private for her immediate family at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home for a WALK-THRU Visitation on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
