Obituary

EDWARD A. PERRY, age 91, a Hingham resident for the past 35 years, died on Monday, March 20th at the Harbor House Nursing Center in Hingham. Mr. Perry was born in Weymouth and was a graduate of Tabor Academy and Dartmouth College where he was an economics major. He and his wife lived on Beacon Hill in Boston in his early years and worked for The First National Bank of Boston. He later lived in Weymouth and Hingham. He established a home heating system service corporation, Emerson Coal and Grain Company of Weymouth which served the South Shore community. He was its President until his retirement. He was active in his community as Trustee of the East Weymouth Savings Bank and served on business affairs committees of the Weymouth Rotary Club.

An avid sportsman, he sailed and played hockey at Dartmouth College and played golf most of his adult life. He was a member of Hingham's South Shore Country Club, of which his father was a founder. He organized deep sea fishing events for family and friends off the coasts of the Boston Harbor Outer Islands, Duxbury and Cape Cod. He was a member of the Boston area chapter of The North American Hunting Retriever Association in which he and his many Labrador Retrievers competed and received awards in field trials with a variety of retrievers in bird hunting exercises. He also coached in town youth athletic leagues for his childrens' teams. Weekends were important for family in that he would engage them in these stimulating sporting activities.

Mr. Perry was married for 61 years to the late Frances (Handrahan) Perry. He was the father of Joan Frances Jones of Hingham, David Tufts Perry of Cambridge and the late Edward A. Perry, Jr. He was the grandfather of David Jones, Christopher Jones, Todd Perry and Katherine Perry. He also the brother of the late Marion Perry.

The funeral services and interment are to be private. Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimers Disease Support Group of the South Shore (ADSGSS), P.O. Box 109, Hingham, MA 02043.
