Obituary

Carolyn A. Powers, 85, passed away unexpectedly in Taunton on February 28, 2021. She was the wife of George R. Powers Sr. they shared 62 happy years of marriage together. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late David W. O’Connor and Carrie (Greco) O’Connor. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1953 and attended St. Anne School of Nursing in Fall River, graduating in 1956. She worked for 17 years at Morton Hospital and then at Taunton State Hospital for 18 years before retiring. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, traveling, and music performances. She spent summers on Cape Cod and winters in Florida. She was a member of the Taunton Catholic Nurse and the St. Anne’s Alumni and Morton Hospital Retirees. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Parish in Taunton and was active for many years in the Cursillo movement. She is predeceased by two brothers, David W. O’Connor III and Daniel O’Connor. She is survived by three children, Maureen Hebert and her husband James of Taunton, George R. Powers Jr. and his wife Jean of Bridgewater and Janet Curley and her husband Peter of North Dighton. She is survived by six grandchildren Nicole and Ryan Hebert, Erin Medeiros, Jennifer Curley, Meghan, and Matthew Powers and six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in Taunton on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 10am followed by interment at St. Francis Cemetery on Glebe St. in Taunton. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
